Fish Face Goods Illustrator Troy Thomas Talks About His New Vintage Bronco Design
I want to tell you about the new vintage Bronco four-wheel drive design I showed in last week's newsletter. I love the older style trucks. The illustration has now been added to a t-shirt. I'm continuing on the theme of drawing off-road vehicles that get you where you want to go - into the outdoors.
My assignment again was to do a design that killed two birds with one stone, draw a retro 4-wheel drive vehicle and incorporate the Fish Face Goods logo in some way into the illustration.
The design also has another thing going for it. It can go on the front or the back of a t-shirt! Obviously. it can also go on a coffee mug, tote, or long sleeve. I'll try it on a cap like I did with last week's Keep on Hiking art.
You folks are going to have to throw me some more ideas on what you'd like to see in a retro vehicle design. I know people get into their brands - Ford, Chevy or Dodge. I'm thinking of maybe a Chevy Suburban, probably because my grandfather loved his suburban and he was a fisherman. I remember seeing pics of my grandfather’s first Chevy Suburban. He was so proud of it. He drove out west and to Canada on fishing trips with my uncles. I'm into Toyotas myself. I will do a Toyota Land Cruiser at some point.
In regards to illustration style, this is simple line art. Heavy on the line. Simple shapes and colors. It has that artistic, artsy hand-drawn feel. It’s a drawing style I have done many times and a style I believe many of you enjoy.
I would like to do some more vehicles, so feel free to drop a suggestion in the comments and let me know what you'd like to see. Maybe an adventure style motorcycle? I see plenty of those here in North Carolina with fly fishing rods strapped to the back. So maybe that would be a good design to try?
